Elizabeth Sargent Warren Historic Preservation Award

The Elizabeth Sargent Warren Award was established in 2013 to honor long-time preservationist and Barrington resident Elizabeth Sargent (Bonnie) Warren. The award, which is presented at the BPS annual meeting in January, recognizes an individual or business for outstanding work in preserving the historic character of a property or landscape, or for exceptional effort in advocating for preservation or historic or community pride in Barrington.

Recipients of the Warren Award:

2013: Elizabeth Sargent Warren, in whose name the award is established, for her many years of leadership and service in support of historic preservation in Barrington and in Rhode Island.

2014: Egbert, a Narragansett Bay scallop boat, built 1885, and the Terhune family of Stanley’s Boat Yard, who have faithfully preserved this wonderful working and pleasure boat, a compelling symbol of Barrington’s and Rhode Island’s maritime heritage.

2016: Bernard and Jane Scola of Barrington, in recognition of their forty-five-year stewardship of the iconic boathouse at 38 Mathewson Road, as well as many years of leadership in the Society and promoting preservation in Barrington.

2017: The Town of Barrington, in honor of three hundred years of stewardship of our historic resources, 1717 to 2017, including sustained efforts to preserve the historic character and landscape of the Barrington Town Hall and Civic Center National Historic District, with special recognition of retired Town Manager Peter DeAngelis.

2018: Richard and Jane Donnelly, in grateful recognition of the complementary skills and talents they brought to the production of the book  Barrington, conceived, compiled, edited, and published in short order on the occasion of Barrington’s three-hundredth anniversary. 2019: Sydney Montstream-Quas, in recognition of her creative vision, stewardship, and education about Barrington’s heritage with the book Barrington By the Bay, interpretive signage on the East Bay Bike Path and Civic Center, and her many successful bicycle and graveyard tours.
